What this estimate is really measuring

A distant subject is useful in a phone photo only when it covers enough native sensor pixels. The subject's angular size, the camera's field of view and the light available at the scene all matter. A large zoom label cannot override those physical limits.

Why native pixels are shown separately

Digital zoom can enlarge a subject on the screen, but it does not add the source pixels that captured it. The assessment therefore reports both frame coverage and native pixels across the subject, so a large preview cannot be mistaken for extra detail.

How to improve a borderline result

  • Choose the brightest safe position and avoid shooting through glass when possible.
  • Brace the phone or use a tripod before increasing magnification.
  • Record a short burst or video for moving birds and aircraft instead of relying on one frame.
  • Move closer or add real optical equipment when the subject remains below useful detail.
